                      Today morning I installed the latest version of Kubuntu in my virtual box. Virtual box is a virtualization tool that is developed by sun micro systems to install an OS on top of another without formatting the Hard disk or for that matter changing your system. How a virtual box works in given here. The latest edition of the virtual box can be downloaded from the sun website.For the sake of terminology the OS which is already in you machine is called Host operating system, the operating system that is being installed on top of it is called as guest operating system Ok! Here are the steps to install the new OS.

1) Download the setup of the virtual box from the sun website.

2)install the virtual box.

3) The open the vbox. It will contain the os that the system supports, in my case it was linux. then in the 2nd column specify the distribution which you are going to install. In case your distribution or OS version is not mentioned then select the option other/unknown OS.

4) Then the Vbox will ask you to select a virtual harddisk. This is nothing but a virtual file in which all the files of the guest OS is installed. Select a name for the drive and select the drive into which the virtual disk is to be created.

5) Then click on the next button and finish.

6) So far the entire setup for installing the system.Now insert the installation CD in the drive and then start the virtual machine. The normal installation of the os can be done normally.

"Happy Browsing!!"
       Well people this is my first tech blog if you can call it. Well I had a great time with firefox 3.5 in my vista. Well I liked it addons and customization features. Especially the anycolor pulgin which allows us to give out browser new themes and colors of our choice. The only thing that worried me was that it started to crash more often than the old firefox. But other than that it was a great browser when compared with Ie. Well Then I thought to install firefox in my ubuntu machine but the get-apt update only updated it to firefox 3.0.3. Well I searched the web and came up with this blog which details how we can install 3.5.2 in our machines. The following command is to be executed in the command window
if [[ ! -f /usr/bin/firefox ]]; then sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox; fi && if [[ -e ~/.mozilla ]]; then cp -R ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.backup; fi && sudo tar -jxvf firefox-3*.tar.bz2 -C /opt && rm firefox-3*.tar.bz2 && sudo mv /opt/firefox/plugins /opt/firefox/plugins.backup && sudo ln -s /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins /opt/firefox/plugins && sudo dpkg-divert –divert /usr/bin/firefox.ubuntu –rename /usr/bin/firefox && sudo ln -s /opt/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox
      Now I don’t know exactly how this works but for more information you could go to the site which I referred by clicking here Happy browsing!!
